

Successful completion of water source and springshed management interventions at Barshong Chiwog in Naro Gewog, Thimphu, under the project “Protecting Fragile Mountain System and Enhancing Sustainable Livelihood “.
Key achievements include:
Construction of a 23,400L reservoir tank
Renovation of a 7,000L reservoir tank
Installation of three water filtration units (600L each)
Alignment & laying of four km of drinking water pipelines
Construction of wooden troughs & storage tanks for domestic & wild animals
Fencing of 2.5 acres to safeguard springs
A co-created water harvesting & storage system integrating nature-based solutions
This milestone was made possible with support from COMDEKS, GEF-Small Grants Programme, UNDP Bhutan, and partnership with the Royal Government of Bhutan, alongside the wholehearted involvement of Gewog administration and community members.
By combining modern innovation with Indigenous & Traditional Knowledge (IK & TK), the community has fostered ownership and sustainability in ensuring water security for generations to come.
