As part of the Building Resilient Commercial Smallholder Agriculture-BRECSA (BRECSA) project, the first of 25 targeted Model Nutrition Gardens has been successfully developed in Nubi Gewog, Trongsa. The pilot site was identified at the residence of Ms. Chozom, who lives with her younger sister and brother, all three of whom are speech-impaired but actively engaged in agriculture and dairy farming.
The model garden features 10 varieties of vegetables, a newly constructed poultry house, and five local layer birds. In addition, the family was trained in oyster mushroom cultivation to enhance household nutrition and income further.
Sanam Jabchorpas from Drakteng and Tangsibji also participated in the setup process. The activity was facilitated by Sonam Jamtsho, Sr. Field Officer of the Foundation.
The garden now stands as a model for replication in the remaining 24 identified sites under the project.
The project is funded by GAFSP and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and implemented by Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Royal Government of Bhutan (MoAL), and the Foundation is the implementing partner of WFP Bhutan.
