

Today, Her Majesty Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, the Founding President of the Tarayana Foundation, visited Maetabkha Gewog as part of an ongoing monitoring tour. Accompanied by Lyonpo Sangay Dorji, Chairperson of the National Council, Her Majesty, after visiting Phuntshopelri Lhakhang inaugurated a newly constructed 25,000-liter water reservoir tank at Goenpatoed village, an initiative aimed at enhancing water security for the community.


Her Majesty granted an audience to the people of Maetabkha, fondly recalling her visit to the Gewog 19 years ago, then undertaken on foot.
Her Majesty granted an audience to the students and presented Club T-shirts to the Tarayana Club members. The Club coordinator presented an update on the Clubโs activities. Her Majesty encouraged the students to grow into disciplined and responsible individuals in her address.


Established in 2017, the Maetabkha Tarayana Club currently has 31 members (21 female and 10 male), with all teaching (7) and non-teaching (4) staff serving as members.
Her Majesty visited the home of Ap Wangdi, a father of six children and one of the housing beneficiaries under the Tarayana Foundationโs initiative. With support from the American Himalayan Foundation, the Foundation has constructed 33 homes in Maetabkha Gewog, significantly improving living conditions for vulnerable families in the community.



In addition, various water security initiatives have been undertaken at the Gewogs, including the construction of reservoir and filtration tanks, renovation of water taps. Capacity-building programs such as plumbing training and Self-Help Group (SHG) management have also been introduced, alongside fruit seedling distribution, citrus basin management, and sustainable land management practices under the Living Landscape Project.



A brief tea stop was made at Dungna, where Lyonpo Sangay Dorji expressed heartfelt gratitude for Her Majestyโs enduring support and guidance.
The day concluded with a meeting with community members of Chadokha, where the Gup provided a progress update on ongoing projects and some cultural programmes.
