Her Majesty Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, the Founding President of the Tarayana Foundation, is in Zhemgang Dzongkhag on a monitoring visit from 22nd to 25th October 2025.
Today, Her Majesty visited Bjoka Gewog and met with the community members of Bjoka Trong, Kamiti, Chapdempa, Namegrang Barpong, and Dali Chiwogs.
Zhemgang is among the first Dzongkhags where Tarayana began its interventions in 2003. Over the years, the Foundation has implemented several transformative initiatives to enhance living standards, strengthen livelihoods, and promote sustainable community development.
Key Highlights in Bjoka Gewog:
Establishment of a 17KW micro-hydro power plant in Dali in 2015, providing clean energy to 30 households until the village was electrified in 2020.
Housing improvements for 180 families and construction of toilets across five chiwogs, supported by development partners and philanthropists.
Development of bamboo-based enterprises, artisan training, and self-help group formation supported by the SAARC Development Fund (SDF).
Nutrition and health advocacy initiatives to promote healthy diets and build community resilience during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP).
Tarayana Micro Finance services that enabled access to credit for last-mile communities.
The Building Resilient Commercial Smallholder Agriculture (BRECSA) Project, focusing on smart agriculture, nutrition education, and the empowerment of women and youth, implemented in partnership with the World Food Programme and the Ministry of Agriculture.
Through these sustained efforts, the Tarayana Foundation continues to foster resilience, self-reliance, and inclusive growth in Bhutanโs most remote communities.

The Dzongkhag and Drungkhag administrations warmly welcomed and expressed their deep gratitude to Her Majesty for the unwavering support and services the Tarayana Foundation has rendered to the communities since its inception.
Her Majesty also paid a visit to the most sacred Nyingshingborang Lhakang, popularly known as the Meme Zala Ku Lhakang in Norbugang Gewog, Pemagatshel, after the Bjokha visit. Her Majesty will continue the visit to more gewogs and schools in the coming days. ![]()
