Gewog staff and Tarayana come together to repair the home of an older villager in Tshozor
Sometimes, making a difference begins with something as simple as helping someone make their home safer.
In Tshozor village, Lumang Gewog, the Gewog Administration staff and Tarayana’s Field Officer spent two days repairing and maintaining the home of Grandma Yangdon, an older community member who lives alone.
Grandma Yangdon has two children, but they have moved away from the village, and she has little support nearby. Recognising her situation, the community came together to make her home safer and more comfortable.

What was done
The work included repairs to the house and improvements to the roof and the electrical system. PPGI sheets, nails, plywood and electrical wiring materials were provided with support from the Karuna Foundation, and Dhanmaya Hardware, Wamrong, supported the transportation. The BPC team contributed their time and skills to wire the house, making it a safer place to live.
The spirit behind it
What made the effort especially meaningful was the spirit behind it. Gewog staff, Tarayana and local supporters shared their time and resources and worked side by side to help one of their own.
For Tarayana, this is what community support is about: not only improving houses, but helping people live with greater safety, dignity and a sense of belonging.
A safer home can mean a little more comfort, a little more security and the reassurance that someone cares. Together, small acts of support can create a safer and more dignified life.
