Tarayana Foundation continues to support rural communities in building safer, stronger, and more disaster-resilient homes through practical skills development, community participation, and strategic partnerships.

Under the Karuna Foundation Project, the Foundation conducted a week-long Disaster-Resilient Housing Training in Gakiling Village, Dewathang Gewog, Samdrup Jongkhar. The training brought together 45 community members, including 19 women and 26 men, providing participants with practical knowledge and hands-on skills for resilient housing construction.
The training covered key areas of construction, including roof truss and rafter preparation, window framing and double-glazed shutters, and foundation layout using the triangle method. Beyond technical skills, the training encouraged community participation, shared contribution, and collective responsibility in building safer and more resilient homes.
Strengthening Partnerships for Resilient Housing
As part of its continued efforts to expand skills development and partnerships, the Foundationโs project team visited Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC) on 1 September to explore potential areas of collaboration.

The discussions focused on possible collaboration for house construction in Rhikhey, technical support and student engagement, as well as the establishment of a Tarayana Club at JNEC. Such partnerships have the potential to connect technical knowledge and student expertise with community needs, creating opportunities for practical learning and meaningful engagement in rural development.
During the visit, the team also observed student innovations, including a solar dryer developed for cardamom. The innovation highlighted opportunities for future collaboration and support in promoting locally relevant technologies and solutions.

Through initiatives such as disaster-resilient housing training and partnerships with educational institutions, Tarayana Foundation remains committed to empowering communities, strengthening local skills, and fostering partnerships that contribute to resilient and sustainable rural development.
