

On the second day of Her Majesty Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuckโs visit to Zhemgang Dzongkhag, Her Majesty visited Mewangang Chiwog in Goshing Gewog.
In this community, five families received housing support through the Foundation, generously sponsored by Ms. Sonam to Choden Dukpa (Gauri) in 2021 as part of her late fatherโs funeral rites -a compassionate act that brings comfort to others while honoring a life well lived. ![]()


Mewangang Chiwog also houses a Community Facility Centre for Cane and Bamboo Development, managed by a dedicated self-help group producing bamboo furniture, lampshades, and lifestyle products. Their creations are proudly showcased at the Centenary Farmers Market (CFM) in Thimphu and in various cafes across the country. The construction of the facility was supported by the Dzongkhag.
In Goshing Gewog, the Foundationโs interventions include:
Housing improvement for 44 families in Lamtang village (supported by UNDP, 2014)

Water and sanitation projects in Lichibi village -construction of four pour-flush toilets and five water reservoirs, formation of a Water User Group, and springshed management, A 7-unit girlsโ toilet at Goshing Primary School (supported by the City of Vienna through the Friends of Bhutan Association, Austria)
Bamboo crafts training in India, formation of self-help groups, and supply of bamboo tools, along with training on handicrafts, pickle-making, bamboo construction, and entrepreneurship supported by the SAARC Development Fund.
Additionally, Tarayana Microfinance services are available in the gewog, alongside BRECSA initiatives, enhancing livelihood and resilience.
Through these concerted efforts, Tarayana Foundation continues to empower rural communities, promote self-reliance, and build resilience across Bhutan- in service of the Honโble Founding Presidentโs noble vision. ![]()
