Hon’ble President, HM Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk Inaugurates Gravity Ropeway

On 9th February, Her Majesty, accompanied by Dasho Dzongda, officials from Dzongkhag and Drungkhag administration, Regional Director and officials from Practical Action, Nepal and Programme Coordinator, GEF-SGP, UNDP and Tarayana staff joined the inauguration of ‘Gravity Good Ropeway’ in a traditional ceremonial procession led by Samtse Lam Neten and monk bodies. The rope-way that connects Changju and Thrikha will benefit more than 150 households.
A 980meters long gravity goods ropeway was successfully installed and commissioned in Norgaygang gewog, connecting Thrikha and Changju. This is a community owned and operated facility, the first of its kind in the country, and is currently operated by the Griling Tshokpa. With the commissioning of this goods ropeway, the community members will no longer have to carry inputs into and produce out of the village saving them both time and money. The project was financed by GEF-SGP and executed by Tarayana on behalf of the community with technical support from Practical Action, Nepal. The gravity goods ropeway was inaugurated by the Hon’ble President of Tarayana Foundation, HM The Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck on the 9th of Feb, 2014. Dasho Dzongda, members of the Dzongkhag and Drungkhag Administrations, Regional Director accompanied by officials of Practical Action, Nepal, Programme Coordinator, GEF-SGP, and a representative from GNHC joined the local community and the Tarayana family in a simple traditional inauguration ceremony. The ceremony was led by the Samtse Lam Neten.
