Smile Asia Surgical Camp
Yesterday the Hon’ble President Her Majesty The Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck visited Paro Hospital and met with the patients undergoing restorative surgical attention. The Surgical camp that has been going on for the past one week is being organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Smile Asia. Smile Asia is a global alliance of independent charities working together to treat children with facial deformities, since 2008. They focus on cleft lip, cleft palate, burns, tumors and other facial deformities in children, their medical missions allow them to deliver safe surgeries to places where they may not be readily available according to international standards, frequently in the developing world. This is their fourth camp in Bhutan and so far they have treated 141 patients with an additional 45 in the ongoing camp. Her Majesty hosted a High Tea for the Surgical Team at the Ugyen Pelri Palace to thank the team for their volunteer service in changing lives of those who needed the surgical attention. Her Majesty also met with the hospital team and thanked each and everyone for their dedicated service to the nation.
