Be it a result of a congenital issue such as cleft palate or a tragic accident such as an animal attack, severely disfiguring conditions are a source of both physical and psychological suffering for the victims. Without access to proper care, which is often too expensive or simply unavailable in Bhutan, such people may be permanently incapacitated by their condition, and socially shunned. Tarayana offers relief to these patients by organizing and providing logistical support for restorative surgical camps, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Surgicorp International, an American surgical group based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Smile Asia,Singapore. The team is comprised of expert medical personnel who conduct the surgeries, and volunteers who serve to organize medical charts, assist with pre-operative preparations, and help with post-operative care. Both the teams are assisted by the capable staff at Paro District Hospital and the team from the Jigme Dorji National Referral Hospital(JDWNH).
