5th Annual Green Technology Challenge was held at CST premises on 2nd June, 2016
In collaboration with the College of Science and Technology (CST), Rinchending, the 5th Annual Green Technology Challenge was held at CST premises on 2nd June, 2016. This initiative was started in 2013, with the intention of contributing towards our national goal of remaining carbon neutral as well as giving a platform to showcase innovation and creativity of our future engineers toward efficient technologies that would benefit rural communities.
This year theme was “Solar Water Heating” targeted at 3rd year students from the Civil and Electrical Engineering Department. The result of our past Green Technology Challenges (Solar Dryers in 2013, Low Cost Water Filtration in 2014, Low Cost Insulation Materials in 2015 and Solar Fencing in 2016) are being adopted in the villages that Tarayana works with and continues to improving the living standard of the community members and provides them with life skills, and knowledge for sustained rural development and growth.
Tarayana Foundadtion will adopt this technology (solar water heater) as well to our target sites if it is found technically viable and appropriate. We are sure that this technology will help reduce the use of fuel wood and improve hygiene in the rural communities. It is hoped that this initiative will also increase the agricultural productivity and allow the farmers to devote more time on economic and household activities which otherwise would be spent in collecting firewood.
